That FIRS budget.

While defending its 2019 budget recently, the Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, certainly startled a joint committee of the National Assembly, NASS, when its Chairman, Mr Babatunde Fowler, said that the service proposed to sew driers’ uniforms with 160 million naira! Even the legendarily profligate NASS was stunned by the audacious and outrageous proposal.

Not done, the service also budgeted N 825 million for refreshment and N250 million for security vote and the Chairman of the service justified the  proposal saying that sewing the uniforms of the 850 drivers in the service with N160 million was part “of the efforts to make them fit properly into the structure”.

The joint committee had said that the proposal was outrageous but Mr Fowler justified it saying that the security vote for instance, was meant “to attend to some security issues” without any further elucidation. A simple analysis shows that…
